At the end of Ethics class

Logan's working in his notebook on and off during the whole class, writing things down, scratching them out, and writing new things. After class, he pulls Parker aside.

"Okay, here's the deal," he says. "I'm required to take care of you. So, here's the key to my house," he hands her a key. "There are three furnished, unoccupied rooms. Pick one, and it's yours for the week. You're welcome to use any of the common areas, including the pool and spa. You can have friends over as long as they don't disturb me or the pirate and you clean up after. I don't care about Jake. I'll have clothing for you in a couple of days. You are not required to wear anything I buy for you. In fact, I don't give a fuck if you do, but I'm providing. Please give me your clothing sizes so I don't have to get Rory to peek at your labels." He smiles at Parker. "I'll set up an account at Luke's Diner so you can eat on me for the week."

"Now, the catch - for sixteen waking hours over the next week, you will not say anything negative or derogatory about myself or my friends. Including, but not limited to, Angelus. In fact, you will be entirely supportive of my friends *and* vampires in general. *Not* in a sarcastic manner, either. You will be as sincere as humanly possible. You will pose for photographs and provide interviews on the subject, if requested." He smiles. "That's it. That's all I'm asking of you.

"Your safe 'word', should you need it, is 'No, master, my fragile ego can't take it anymore.' Any questions?"

Parker folded her arms, eyes narrowing. "No making me run and fetch? No telling me to dance like a chicken? No making up stories about me to your buddies? I'm impressed."

She stands there thinking for a minute, her face closed off. "Size 6. Since you want to provide. I'll see about wearing them when they arrive, in the spirit of the damn experiment. Size 6 in shoes, too." She looks at the key and the card. "This implies a certain level of trust that even with a one-week limit, you might end up regretting, you know."

Then Parker closes her eyes. "Goddamnit, Echolls. I'm gonna flunk this. I don't know if I can go that far. I can *maybe* refrain from expressing my opinion on Angelus for 16 hours, if I'm not provoked. Vampires in general, I *might* be able to manage to not vilify, if we're not limited to your buddy's home dimension. But supportive? I'm not freakin' Meryl Streep! Why don't you just go up to the Professor and tell her to give us both F's right now?! Plus, it's against Rule #6, as far as I'm concerned!"

"I picking out my own damn safeword. And that word is 'Lorelei.'" She's practically snarling. "Making the safeword something I don't and won't say under normal circumstances is cheating. Don't push it."

"And I'm not under any circumstances going into an off-campus house where Angelus has an invite after dark. I'll spend the time there or at the diner during daylight hours. Take that as a boundary, if you will."

Logan shrugged. "I can hire people to run and fetch for me. And if you feel like you're coming off as too sincere, to the point where you're actually convincing people that you believe it, you can take off your badge and tell them off-the-record that I made you do this. I don't think that's too much to ask of you, and we can check with the Professor if you think it is."

"You can choose your own safeword if you like, but I suggest you don't make it my girlfriend's name or the name of anyone at the school. Make it something you wouldn't normally say, so there's no confusion."

"You aren't required to stay at my house. I'm offering you room and board; it's your choice if you take it."

Parker is clearly thinking about this. "No ordering me *not* to contradict myself later. No claiming I cheated if I do?" She looks down at her shoes, tapping one foot on the floor. "That might be acceptable. I do want to talk to Professor Maclay, though."

Parker shrugged at the safeword mention. "*I* wouldn't normally call her Lorelei, but if it's going to confuse you... I'll get back to you on that, as soon as I have a minute to think of something. If I decide to do this project."

"Offer noted. We'll see if I can think of a reason to use it."

Parker rubbed her forehead. "I have to get to the library. People with far more issues and good reasons to be upset are stressing out there, and I'm supposed to be helping them. I'll email you later, and we can meet to discuss this after I've had a little more time to think."

"Okay. Talk to her. Think about it. Get back to me. If this doesn't work for you, I'll think of something else." He grins.
