After getting Veronica's message, he called her back and invited her down to his room to talk.

"Hm. I thought we had a discussion about secrets."

"I know," she said, swallowing hard. "And for what it's worth? I'm sorry."

Veronica paused, took a deep breath and then started rambling.

"Marty got a phone call two weeks ago from a guy who knew what he used to do for a living. He wanted Marty to do two more jobs. He knew all about Marty; who he cared about, where they lived, everything. So Marty agreed to meet with him."

She forced herself to look him in the eye.

"Logan, one of the hits he wanted Marty to do was me."

Logan ran a hand through his hair. "God, Veronica, why didn't you tell me?"

"Well, for one thing? You were a bunny. There was nothing you could have done to help. Marty came up with a plan to stage a fake shootout; Piper cast a spell on Lilly so she looked like me and one on Angel so he looked like Marty. Jake shifted to look like Nadia."

Veronica looked down. "The other reason was because of who was behind it."

"I haven't been a bunny for two weeks, Veronica! You should have told me, no matter who was behind it!" Logan paused, then asked with a sense of dread. "Who was behind it?"

Veronica couldn't make herself look up. She didn't want to see his reaction.

"Your father," she said softly.

Logan pushed himself off the bed and slammed his fist into the nearest wall in one single motion.

"Logan, stop," Veronica pleaded, finally looking up. "I'm fine. As far as he knows, Marty killed me."

Yeah, it was really hard to speak those words out loud. But she really didn't want Logan flipping out yet since there was still one more really important thing she had to tell him.

Logan shook the plaster off his hand as he swung around to face her. "Why didn't you tell me?" he asked in a low voice, trying to keep his fury under control.

"I didn't want to hurt you."

Logan let out a bark of bitter laughter. "And in what universe did that translate to lying to me?"

"What exactly do you think I should have done?" she asked. "Hi, honey, glad you're not a bunny anymore and oh, by the way, your dad tried to have me killed the other day."

Logan threw up his hands. "Yes!"

"I was handling it!" Veronica insisted. "After everything you've been through because of him, I didn't want to add to it."

Logan slammed a hand against the wall again. "Christ, Veronica, I'm not going to fall apart because you tell me my dad's an evil bastard. I kind of got that message a while ago. I could have helped you handle it."

It was Veronica's turn to laugh. "And how exactly would you have handled it?" she asked. "Called him up and said, 'Gee, Dad, it would be swell if you stopped trying to murder all my girlfriends?'"

Logan's face hardened. "No," he said darkly. "I was thinking of something more permanant."

"Funny, that was pretty much my thinking," she said.

Logan stared at her for a moment. "And how did you plan to..." The color drained from his face as he started putting pieces together. "You talked to Bel," he said flatly. It wasn't a question.

Veronica nodded.

"You couldn't talk to me, but you could talk to Bel?"

"Bel owed me," she said. "And had the means to do it."

Logan's hands clenched into fists, and he stuffed them in his pockets. "I see."

"I realize it wasn't exactly the best way to handle things," Veronica admitted. "But I'm tired of being a victim."

Logan clenched his jaw. "When is Bel going to...?"
